I’ve been working on the next chapter of my novel this week and I had a lot of fun writing it. It was funny though, in going back to edit it, how things came through. What I was focusing on was really fleshing out some of the more magical aspects of the world my characters live in, but in re-reading the first scene of the chapter, what really jumped out at me was the themes of vulnerability and personal connection. I’d planned for a kick ass battle prep scene! I’ve seen a lot of stuff lately on tv and in the paper about how our phones are disconnecting us from each other more than bringing us together and that we’re experiencing a loneliness epidemic. And also, my family is away this week and I’m housesitting for someone else. Nine long days alone in an empty house with just a couple of dogs for company. Lol! So I guess those themes weaseled their way into my writing. Sometimes we make an effort to explore a theme and then sometimes they surprise us. Funny how life and art (or fiction) and the digital world are all so permeable. Anyway, it’s been fun working on this next chapter and I hope you enjoy it when it comes out this weekend. Until then!
