Law in a Lawless World & the Gaia Theory

I’m jumping the gun a little bit here, but in wrapping up the latest chapter in my novel Everyday Witches, I’ve come to a nexus and have been furiously trying to work out how I’m going to resolve it. Our witches are going to finally face down with the robber/murderer they’ve been trying to track down and I’ve been trying to figure out what they’ll do with him once they do. The system of justice in their magical realm isn’t as developed as the human’s and they’re not barbarians, so they’ll have to come up with a humane way of treating their interloper. In doing some research for my story, I came across an interesting scientific theory that’s definitely worth checking out – gaia theory – Google Search. It’s not widely revered but is fascinating and I think I’ll find a way to incorporate it here. It’s based on the idea that the Earth itself is a sort of interconnected, bio-regulating system. I’d love to hear what you think about the idea!

It’s been really interesting anyway, mulling over how a just system would operate without an actual justice system like our world’s. And also the idea that the Earth could have its own regulatory system, that would tie into my novel’s premise that the Gaia is a sort of living magical essence alongside the world we see.

If you haven’t read the story yet, you can check it out here.

And stay tuned for the next chapter that will be released this weekend!
